Comparison between the Virginia and Massachusetts Colonies
The Virginia and Massachusetts colonies had several similarities as they were both British colonies. However, the beliefs and values of the settlers and the climatic conditions led to each one of them being unique to the other. James, Virginia was established in 1607 when after the England’s King James had issued the Virginia Charter on April 10, 1606. The charter allowed the London Company to establish plantations in the area. For this reason, the colony was established to make money for the British Colonialists. On the other hand, the Massachusetts colony was established in 1620 after the arrival of the Pilgrims (Boorstin, 1958). They were Puritan settlers who were migrating to America for religious reasons. They reached Provincetown, Massachusetts on November 9, 1620. They signed the Mayflower Compact, which was a set of laws and rules that governed people on the colony.
