Department of Homeland Security
The United States had not experienced a terror attack the magnitude experienced in the September eleventh attacks in 2001, which prompted significant and radical changes in the approaches made in securing the country. The Oklahoma City bombing of 199 was the closest experience the American society had experienced, in which the death toll rose to about 150 citizens in the blast. However, the death toll in the Oklahoma bombing paled compared to the 3000 people that had lost their lives in the New York attack, which could explain the extensive measures taken by the government in response to the attack, and in an effort to reduce the chances of a similar future occurrence.
