Based on the PBS video your watched on bipolar disorder and the brain, write three (no less/no more) well-written paragraphs on at least three primary points you learned about the nature of bipolar disorder, the brain, the lives of people who suffer with this often debilitating mental illness, and how researchers and social workers can be at the front lines of helping.

Each paragraph should have 5-6 well-developed sentences (give examples from the story and express/explain) that are well-edited, with good grammar (commas in the correct spot) and sentence structure (complete sentences). I will be looking for depth of content of your response, appropriate to an advanced social worker practitioner, to this excellent PBS documentary on bipolar disorder and the cutting technological edge of bipolar treatment and therapies.

Based on the video, the quest to understand the general nature of bipolar disorder requires one to first fully understand the functionality of the brain since the mental illness normally affects the brain (pbs.org). To determine where the brain polar normally breaks down requires medical practitioners to obtain brain maps of the different areas of the brain. In this case, bipolar disorder can be best described as a mental illness that influences extreme variations in a person’s mood and retards the person’s energy and ability to perform different daily activities. The video has revealed that most victims of bipolar disorder tend to be overly excited about their situations and may be associated with a lot of anxiety due to the influence it the disorder has on the brain.
