Leadership defines itself better when in action rather than mere words. Notably, Nehemiah is a great biblical leader who demonstrates his ability to lead and control through actions. In the book of Nehemiah 2:17-18, he approaches the congregation to inform them of their situation. He states “You know very well what trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire. Let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and end this disgrace! (Wansbrough, 1985)” With this, Nehemiah demonstrates his ability to lead by including himself in taking the work that needs to be done. Rather than directing his people, he leads as an example by taking part in the reconstruction of the Jerusalem wall.
