For the case of smart cards, it is a risk that would rather be mitigated by the Human Resource department ensuring that all employees ensure that in case someone loses his or her he or she immediately notifies the relevant authority. As such, the IT department should adopt the use of biometric data since this may lessen the risk of security threat in case there is an emergence of a security threat.
