we minister, all the leadership techniques and spiritual insights in the world are useless.
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
 Evaluate your personal response to the importance of empathy for Christian leaders.

Background Information
For this week’s journal entry, we return to Daniel Goleman, world-renowned expert in the field of emotional intelligence. The Ted
Talk that you will view has been seen more than 2 million times.

Instructions

Watch Daniel Goleman’s Ted Talk, “Why Aren’t We More Compassionate?(new tab)”
In 2-3 pages, respond to Goleman’s Ted Talk by reflecting on the notion of empathy and compassion in ministry that you
encountered in Chapter 5 of Emotional Intelligence for Leaders, the short video on the landing page, (by Brené Brown and RSA), or personal experiences. If you need a prompt:
a. Consider your own relationship with empathy in ministry or how your ministry context responds with empathy.
b. Reflect on one of these: narcissism, altruistic joy, empathy, or compassion.
As with previous journal entries, you are free to use different formats, poetry, a short story, or even a Vlog (video entry). Take
care to provide proper attribution for borrowed ideas.
