#17 Eliciting complete and accurate testimony from child witnesses
Questioning a child witness, for example in a case of suspected sexual abuse, is challenging.
In this paper I will show that effectively interviewing a child witness takes training, and I will cite recommendations from Korkman on what to do and not do when questioning a child witness.

This rubric is posted as a file at the moment please make sure to follow the rubric and also you did the summary and the draft thing for me last time so you can check that out and let that guide you
The topics below are more than just topics; they include a claim, and at times an introduction to
that claim. Your task will be to convince the reader of the claim. You should copy the claim in
the first paragraph of your paper as your thesis statement. The point is though, that you stick to
the task that you have been assigned and do not write a general paper “about” the topic.
You MUST use the sources that are listed along with each claim and should be able to write the
paper just using those sources. If you want to use additional sources, check with me first.
Unlike the presentation, you each will write your own paper. Since you are researching and
presenting the topic with your partner, it is likely that the content of your paper will be similar
to that of your partner. That’s fine. However, the writing of the actual paper must be your own:
You convince the reader of the thesis statement, using your own words at all times.
You will upload your paper electronically on Canvas where the paper will be checked for
plagiarism with help of Turnitin.
Your paper must be 1500 – 2000 words in length, or 6 – 8 pages not including Works Cited. 12-
point Times New Roman font. Show word number at end of your paper (before
References/Works Cited)
Your paper must meet the standards of a college level paper, both in content and in terms of
writing mechanics. Be sure to include a Works Cited section and to cite your sources properly in
the text. (MLA or APA style are both fine.)

Eliciting complete and accurate testimony from child witnesses
In any case, the witness contains a lot of power in the prospect of determining the outcome of the accused. It could be that the accused is innocent, and the witnesses or witness cement this or it could be that they are guilty and they do the same. When dealing with an adult witness, there is no such problem as long as they are aware of their rights, follow the guidelines and are in line with what is expected.
