Overview of the Leader Interview
In future assignments, you will incorporate interviews with one or more leaders in your organization or school.
- The assignment due in Week 6 is a recorded presentation documenting highlights from the interview(s), with specific focus on technology.
- Who to Interview
If your focus is on P–12 education, the leader you choose could be an assistant principal, a curriculum director, or an instructional specialist. If you are in an organizational setting, this could be a director of curriculum or a director of training who writes curriculum. Another example would be a state or local official who works in education and is responsible for curriculum and instruction.
Suggested Interview Questions
Your focus during the interview should be on factors that contribute to the improvement in curriculum development and instructional practices to enhance and promote student learning. The following are some suggested interview questions:
- As a curriculum and/or instructional leader in your organization, what are your primary responsibilities?
- How closely do you think teachers follow common core, state, and district standards? (If you work in a P–12 setting.)
- How closely do you think that trainers and other personnel follow the curriculum guidelines? (If you work in an organization.)
- In assisting teachers/trainers developing curriculum, how would you ensure the curricula are aligned with state standards or organization guidelines?
- From your observation, what instructional model/strategies do instructors usually use to engage learners in the learning activities?
- What are the effective instructional strategies you recommend for instructors to meet the needs of the diverse student/trainee population?
- How are technologies/tools used to enhance curriculum development and instructional practices in the school district/organization?
- What are the some effective ways you integrate technology into the design of curriculum and instruction?
- What best practices would you suggest for teachers/trainers to take the advantages of modern technology in order to prepare students/trainees for the 21st century?
- What leadership qualities are required to promote a collaborative professional learning community?
- Have there been changes as we have moved into the 21st century learning environment?
