This discussion post has two parts.

Part 1 Leadership Theories

Today’s leader is better described as a coach or facilitator, responsible for eliminating barriers including the removal of structural impediments. These changes intrinsically require leaders to possess a different set of skills and knowledge than previously needed. Leaders must develop the competency to effectively understand others at work, to use such knowledge to influence others to act in ways that enhance one’s personal and/or organizational goals, and to inspire people to engage in contributing to the effectiveness of the organization. In Part 1 of your initial post,

  • Appraise the issues presented in your assigned scenario.
  • Determine a suggested leadership theory to solve the issues.
    • Be sure to include the theorist and the major premise of your selected theory.
  • Defend your selected leadership theory as the best choice.

Part 2 Conflict Management

Conflict among health professionals is inevitable in contemporary health care delivery organizations due to a variety of factors, including employee diversity, status difference, heavy patient workloads, and the need to make difficult and timely decisions. Walston and Johnson (2022) categorized four types of work-related conflict: (1) task conflict, (2) process conflict, (3) relationship conflict, and (4) non-task organizational conflict. Conflict does not necessarily lead to ineffectiveness within groups or organizations. Positive conflict can act as a stimulus for change by encouraging debate, reducing collective group thinking, and stimulating critical thinking.

In Part 2 of your initial post,

  • Interpret your conflict management style based on the results from the Conflict Management Styles Assessment Download Conflict Management Styles Assessment.
    • Be sure to present your results from the highest score to the lowest score.
  • Describe a conflict that you currently experienced in the work environment.
    • Be sure to state the type of work-related conflict and your conflict style(s) to manage this identified conflict.
  • Analyze how you can anticipate and manage the identified conflict to reduce risks from occurring.

Your initial post of Part 1 and Part 2 should be a minimum of 500 words. Guided Response: Due by Day 7. Review your classmates’ posts and provide a substantive response to at least two of your classmates who have presented a different leadership theory in Part 1 or conflict management style in Part 2. In your peer replies, identify interesting facts, differences, or similarities presented by your classmates. Each response must be a minimum of 100 words. You are encouraged to post your required initial post and replies early each week to stimulate more meaningful and interactive discourse in your discussions.
