MAT211Discussion A
image.gifPART 1
Taking a math course can be a daunting task for some and a joy for others. Our math discussions will span two weeks. During the first week, you will respond to a question or problem posed. Then, during the second week of the discussion, you will respond to 2 or more of your classmates.
During week 1(150WORDS), describe your feelings toward math and list at least one positive and one negative experience you have had with a math course or mathematics you use in your daily life.
PART 2
During week 2,
respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts, comparing your concepts with theirs. Use any personal experience, if appropriate, to help support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, students should debate the issues and provide examples to support opinions.
RESPONSE TO CIARA (100WORDS)
Hello everyone! When it comes to math and science, these two subjects seem to be my weakest. I would have rather taken a on campus course, but unfortunately, it was not available this term. Mathematics is such a broad subject and I really wonder sometimes why do we have to take math, if it has nothing to do with our career path. I guess everything has its purpose. The positive thing is taking some of these courses allows me better understand my daughter’s homework as well. I really don’t have anything negative to say about math because I know somewhere down the road it will come in handy. I really just hope that this course does not become my headache, but gain knowledge on another type of math that I absolutely know nothing about.
RESPOND TO DEBORAH (100WORDS)
I enjoy math. I used to excel in the subject and received high marks throughout school in the various disciplines until I reached Trigonometry. I missed some school during the first semester of Trig and never was able to catch up. In a more recent course, I struggled with fractions within fractions.
We all use math on a daily basis. Whether it is determining which pack of Bounty is the better value, or calculating the actual discount on an item that is marked as 30% off. In my office, we track the number of hours worked, which case the hours belong to and how many pages were reviewed and/or produced. The information is put into a database by the employees, which leads to errors. Anytime the metrics do not add up as they should, I dive in to locate the error. I know that it sounds nerdy, but I love spending an afternoon trying to find and correct the mistake. My work usually requires interpretation or legal opinion. This is black and white. You locate the error, correct it and move on. I like the simplicity.
