What does this cartoon tell us about the nature and origins of American “empire” in the early 1900s? Does this support or negate the idea that the United States wanted to be seen as an imperial power?

The cartoon shows that the nature and origins of American “empire” in the early 1900 was driven by the need to protect the nation’s economic and political interests. The viewpoint is exhibited in the cartoon whereby the U.S. appears to control the other nations in North America, Asia, and Middle East with the aim of ensuring their economic interests were not compromised (Hunt, 2007). For example, the U.S. initiated the “Open Door Policy” which required all nations to have equal access to the Chinese market.
