Esther; Leadership and management are two concepts which people usually get mix-up. According to Williams (2018) the concept of leadership is different from management, and it is described as “the process of influencing others to achieve group or organizational goals” (p. 307). Furthermore, the author exposed the concept of management as “getting work done through others” (Williams, 2018, p. 3); in a few words, managers are focused on “doing things right” while leaders are focused on “doing the right things” (p. 308). Leaders and managers are needed for any organization to succeed; however, Williams (2018) mentioned some important behaviors (e.g., initiating structure [e.g., setting goals, giving directions, setting deadlines, and assigning tasks], and consideration [e.g., friendly, approachable, supportive, and concern for others well-being]), and traits (e.g., drive, desire to lead, integrity, honesty, self-confident, emotional stability, cognitive ability, and knowledge of the business) which if combined could produce great managers with charismatic leadership’s mentality.
While ago, Ms. Alfonso was promoted as a branch manager for a cellular phone company. During her time working for this company, she was in charge of hiring her own staff for the new store as well as for other small locations where the company’s products would be sold out to final customers. Leading her team was an easy task as she was focused on helping each of her team members to reach the company’s goals. Providing constant motivation to her employees was one of her abilities which help them to be engaged and inspired to perform at their best. Some leadership behaviors shown by Ms. Alfonso towards her employees were the application of initiative structure which allowed her to setup goals for the company while giving instructions to her subordinates on how to reach them before deadlines. Also, Ms. Alfonso created a work environment where employees felt confident that they could always go to her with any concerns or situations including the personal ones. Being an approachable and supportive manager towards her employees allowed Ms. Alfonso to build strong bond with her store’s team which in return was demonstrated by the high monthly sales, low employee turnover, more performance readiness, high punctuality, and so forth. Due to Ms. Alfonso’s transformational leadership style, the team performed very well reaching the second place in sales for a period of seven months until she moved to another country. Managers can build strong teams if they are able to think and act as transformational and charismatic leaders.

In this focus of the topic of leading for this weeks discussion, I have chosen to tell about a time I lead at home.I work from home, as a nanny. I work from both my home and the home of other families. On a daily basis I find myself leading the children especially and most obviously but I also find myself in predicaments where I must lead the parents or other family members in scenarios that I have experienced but they may have not.
I have been in the field for the greater part of the past 6 years. I have nannied in other countries as well as taken live in positions and live out positions so I have experienced many children of all ages, many different types of families and many various dynamics when it comes to parenting and rules. I have also dealt with a lot of discrepancies with meals, discipline, learning and teaching and family issues so I have had to opportunity to learn, witness and grow from these scenarios and help other families who may pose questions or look to me for guidance and to also do better in my line of work.
One of my most memorable experiences I remember is working with a family, in which the parents did not set any boundaries what so ever and everything and anything went. This whole family structure was unruly and erratic and it was a challenge for me everyday. The parents rarely looked to me for guidance as they were very specific on how they wanted to raise their children and their children could lash out in any physical way and we just had to accept it. I appreciate various parenting styles but this was WAY too out there for me and a matter of health and safety.
When I was with the children I set my own guidelines and expectations such as no physical retaliation on ones feelings or words, no foul language and using proper manners in order to go to places they wished or gained things they desired. My goals on a daily basis was to ensure the health and safety of the children, positive communication and over all wellbeing of all family members and to create a more structured and developed environment.
My employment here was short term as I chose that the family was not the right fit for me and I felt uncomfortable practicing their parenting techniques.

Chrisnel ; After reading chapter 15 and watching the lecture video a time that I recalled attempted to communicate with someone who failed to pay attention and/or continued to misunderstand me was very recently. I currently work part time at CVS as shift manager and I have two other co-workers at work that have been giving me a lot of trouble in terms of staying safe and taking extra precautions under this pandemic.Last month I went to work in one of my regular days and while walking around I realize this coworkers didn’t have a mask him and when I told him to put one on he gave me over one hundreds reasons why wearing a mask is bad and why he doesn’t like to wear it, when i’m like there is a pandemic going around you should wear your mask if not for you but for the sake of the innocent and loyal customer that shop at the store, and throughout those conversation he just completely ignore me and failed to understanding the point I was trying to make to him, which is wearing your mask help stop the spreading of thean virus and the faster the virus is controlled, means the faster everythings get back to normal. After all those points he still failed to listen to the point where the store got involved and ended up sending him home until he was ready to cooperate.

Michelle; In my past job I was training my replacement. She was a very young girl and had a friend that referred her. As I was training her I wanted to go slow because it was a lot of information to take in. I saw that she was not really pay much attention and I had to repeat myself. I thought it might because she was nervous but later I realized that she was talking to her friend that help her get the job. I wanted to test her knowledge towards the end of the day to see how much she retained and understood. I was not good. She completely forgot everything and I saw that she really did even care about learning the task. I gave her some feedback and gave her some tips and notes. Although she was already hired, I felt obligated to tell the hiring managers that she might not the right fit. However, there was definitely organizational silence. The hiring manager did not tell the department head but they were the one that referred my replacement. After I left I was told that the department was falling behind because they did not acknowledge my position was a very tasked filled job.
