The COVID-19 pandemic has changed consumer shopping behavior. the COVID -19 pandemic led to an increase in e-commerce shopping. The increase in e-commerce shopping hasn’t compensated for the decrease in the overall spending habits of the consumer. Due to the COVID crisis one-third of the population has reported a decrease in their household income, and which motivated them to shop more carefully.
Indeed, consumers expect to spend more on essentials such as groceries and household supplies and less on apparel, vehicles, and travel, etc. Since the crisis began, the consumers have changed something about their shopping style, including some have tried a new shopping technique such as delivery or curbside pickup and some have tried a different retailer.
A raging pandemic affecting consumer shopping
Online shoppers can easily choose the best price, find more healthy options, and by shopping locally where possible help them to be more eco-friendly. The different experiences shoppers have gone through over the recent year have developed new behavioral patterns, going forward many of which may become a part of consumers’ daily routine. consumers’ personal health concerns lead to the digitization of the consumer shopping preferences.
This results in relatively new conveniences like consumers placing their orders online and physically pick-up their purchases from delivery addresses were widely adopted, and these trends are most likely to continue well beyond the pandemic. Consumers expect safer, more convenient, and affordable solutions for the post-pandemic future.
Biblically understanding of pandemics
One thing that I’ve have learned in the Biblical approach of understanding a pandemic is the fact that this is not the first, and surely will not be the last. Keeping my faith and trusting in the Holy Word will get us through it. Luke 21:16-18 “You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. 17 Everyone will hate you because of me. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish.” The Bible tells us that betrayal is something that is bound to happen. This lets me know that a pandemic can last for a season, but we all have to try our best to be obedient and adhere to instruction.

Preference to Shop Online
It is understood that many consumers would prefer to shop online than do face-to-face shopping inside stores for several reasons. “Business to consumer (B2C) is business conducted directly between a business and a consumer” (Boone & Kurtz.2021.p.71). Many people grew to be comfortable with shopping online during the recent pandemic. It forced people to shop in a way that was new and interesting to them. It showed people that they can browse online for items and have them shipped to their homes or a location to just be picked up. It cuts out the middle of having to physically get out of your home or comfort zone to shop for items. For some people, it was a blessing to them that they did not have to leave their homes to be among the crowds at stores and have the potential to be exposed to the coronavirus that so many people were scared of contracting. Overall the main reasons that online shopping has grown are due to competitive pricing, access and convenience, and personalized service.
Pandemic-related Shopping Patterns
The pandemic itself has changed the outlook of what online shopping has now turned into. People today are so into shopping online that most people do not go to stores anymore. More businesses have a larger revenue from online sales than from actual store sales. It is amazing how life changed so drastically in the blink of an eye when the COVID-19 pandemic started. People just felt that it was easier to search online for a product, and input payment information, and within either a matter of hours to a few days, their product was shipped to them with no issues or any type of interaction with a human. The Scriptures describe marketing and business as communication tools. The need to communicate is something that the Bible preaches about intensively. Romans 10:15 states, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” As we can see, any way that we can positively communicate business is accepted and encouraged throughout the Bible.
