Humanity’s footprint is the leading cause of environmental degradation. Degradation increases with the growing population. The expansion of urban areas, the race for water and food resources, and lack of employment and housing facilities arise due to these effect of population growth. Migration of people to towns and the growth of villages into cities causes urbanization (pg.529, ed.10).
