A flow process chart is a graphical representation of the various processes and activities that are undertaken at a given workplace during various industrial engineering processes. The flow process chart allows the management in various industrial concerns to understand what activities need to be undertaken for a given task to be completed. The tool has also been widely used by lean management systems to help eliminate wastage of resources in various manufacturing processes. The first structure that was developed to document process flow was introduced by Lilian and Frank Gilbreth in 1921. They introduced the system to the ASME also referred to as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers which is the major association for engineers in the country.
