Neglected Tropical Diseases
Interdisciplinary care is something that is used in the hospital I work at, it is when a person from each group; social work, case management, doctor, nurse, and pharmacist, investigate every patient. Once they have looked at every patient chart, they work together to see what is going to be the best steps to get the patient home and out of the hospital. The NTD are the neglected tropical diseases, the ones that are not often seen because these people are too ashamed to be seen with the symptoms or the health care workers are to be terrified of the disease to treat them. According to Edberg (2012) the disfiguring of physical symptoms often makes these diseases to be feared by everyone making them hard to treat (p.60). interdisciplinary care helps to prevent the spread of the disease as well as the prevention because of the use of medication. The pharmacist is present and can often identify medication that can both prevent or treat certain tropical diseases. This is key to stopping the spread of these diseases through medications. As the videos from this week said medications have become the saver of people who are diagnosed with these tropical diseases. I think that new medications are the key to keeping the tropical disease from threatening the lives of many people.
