“Humans and other organisms have nearly the same genes, but different cells show different patterns of gene expression. These differences are responsible for the many different properties and behaviors of cells and tissues, both healthy and diseased.
Collecting and comparing transcriptomes of different types of cells, both healthy and diseased. We can gain a deeper understanding of what constitutes a specific cell type and how that type of cell normally functions, and how changes in the average level of gene activity may reflect or contribute to disease. When there are changes in the diseased cell that is not present in the healthy cell, we can assume that that the difference in the infected cell could be a contributing factor for the disease.
I think the most interesting fact about transcriptome is, once a researcher finds an unknown gene, there is a database for researchers to use that list all the tissues of that gene, giving the researcher clues about that gene’s possible function.”
