Question
You will prepare and deliver a compelling and argumentative 6- to 8-minute persuasive speech using Monroe’s Motivated Sequence (see chapter 15 and use the “Persuasive Speech Outline Preparation Form” to prepare your outline). Clearly take a side on an issue and attempt to influence your audience. You must logically establish why the audience must change their behavior or attitude toward some issue. Unlike the informative speech, the persuasive speech must both inform and persuade. To make the most of Monroe’s Motivated Sequence, you are required to follow the steps in sequence. The speech is worth 200 points and the outline is worth 50 points.
Steps to complete your speech:
Receive topic approval from your instructor (the button for the form is on this page on the right)
Research a variety of credible sources to explain ideas clearly, fully, and memorably; you must use and cite at least 5 credible sources for this assignment. At least 3 of these sources must come from material published or posted within the last 3 years.
Prepare a typed outline that reflects a logical organization of content (see outlining information on the right).
Presentation slides are required for the informative speech. Your slides file must be uploaded to GoReact as a PDF file and synced (timed) to your speech (click here for Slide Sync Instructions).
For information on how your speech will be graded (just the speech), see the Speech Evaluation Form at the link on the right for information on how I will assess your information speech (i.e., grading criteria) in GoReact. Note that some competencies are weighted more heavily than others.
