Report on a Campus Issue
For this assignment, you will write an informative/investigative report on an issue that affects students on college campuses. This issue could be one that affects many campuses, or it could be an issue that is specific to the University of Arizona.
What
Write an 800-1000 word informative/investigative report on a campus issue topic of your choosing, following the appropriate genre conventions (as we will discuss in class). You must use at least three outside sources in your report.
Definition of the genre: a piece of writing that presents useful and interesting objective information that investigates current research on important topics for debate that happen on or affect college campuses
Who
For this assignment, your audience will be those impacted by these issues: college students and employees. To address this audience appropriately, you will write in an academic style.
How
1. Analyze the genre conventions of reports so you have a better understanding of the type of writing you will be doing and what conventions you will need to incorporate.
2. Identify possible campus issues you would like to learn more about and report to others.
3. Do preliminary research on your issue. You will compile relevant resources on your topic.
Use the following questions to guide your research:

➔ What do you want to know?
➔ What do you need to know to write a successful report?
3. Identify a guiding question for your topic. This will be a question that you will answer with your report.
4. Outline your report. Think about the different genre conventions of a report that relate to the organization. Create a detailed outline, indicating where you will include different pieces of evidence. Be as detailed as possible: the more detail in the outline, the easier it is to write the first draft.
8. Draft and revise your report. Remember: this is a report. You should present the information about the campus issue in a clear, purposeful, and engaging way. Do not include your personal opinion about the issue: allow your readers to reach their own conclusions about the issue based on the information you provide.
