Question
What are you interested in? Choose a topic you’d like to research in order to identify a problem you’d like to solve. Then, find and read an article on reputable news or website OR view an educational video by a reputable news or web source on that topic of your choice.
Reputable news sites are places like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, BBC, The Economist, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Time, or similar sources. Please stay away from the “Opinion” sections of news sites and instead stick to the reporting.
Reputable websites are those belonging to professional organizations (for example, the ANA’s website is nursingworld.org). You can certainly use Google to locate these sites, but please do not just click on the first Google result thinking it is your best bet. Also, personal blogs and forums are NOT acceptable.
Reputable video sources would be TedTalks, PBS vids, or those done by Vox or any of the aforementioned news sources, etc. You can find these on YouTube, but just watching a random YouTube video is NOT acceptable.
The key concept here is ethos. You want a source that has an ethos and is credible. The estimated time takes into account what can be a lengthy search process to find both a potential topic and a source that has an ethos. (And please note, often video sources can be 12+ minutes). Since this may end up being the topic of your Paper 2, I encourage you to start to explore a field you enjoy learning about.
PROBLEMS TO SOLVE*
After completing the “Research” task above, follow this link to the discussion board. Post a “reply” to my thread (titled “POST HERE”). This is a graded activity. Your reply should be a 3-5 sentence explanation of the problem you’re interested in solving based on what you read/watched. To get credit, your post should include 1) a 1-sentence explanation of what the specific problem is, 2) a 2-sentence explanation of why it interests you, and 3) what you read/watched about it.
