M.3 DropBox: Formal Report NPO Choice and Stories
Read the following files: Formal Report > Formal Report Assignment Handout and Readings > “Telling a Different Story: How Nonprofit Organizations Reveal Strategic Purpose through Storytelling”
From “Telling a Different Story,” read section 1 “Introduction” (pp.142-143) and sections 2.1 “Storytelling in the Nonprofit Context” (p. 143) and 2.2 “Story Purpose” (pp. 143-144). Also familiarize yourself with Table 5: Examples of Classification by Story Genre on page 151.
In a correctly formatted memo with relevant headings, do the following:
Discuss the NonProfit Organization (NPO) that will be the subject of your Formal Report.
Explain what they do, why you chose this organization, and what about its mission interests you. Directly quote the NPO’s mission, in part or in full, in your memo. Some NPO’s also have a Vision statement; you can include this (or parts of it) in your discussion as well.
Discuss at least one story that your chosen NPO uses to promote its cause, mission, and/or vision. Given the information, you learned from reading “Telling a Different Story,” classify the story or stories into one or more of the genres listed in Table 5 and explain how you made that determination.
