In May 2011, President Obama held a press conference to inform the nation that Osama Bin Laden had been killed and his body seized by U.S. Armed forces. In some minds, this event provided justice for the attacks of 9/11; for others, the fear of threat increased. Review the post-event speeches by President Obama, located at http://www.whitehouse.gov/
Write a two to four (2-4) page paper in which you:
- Explain in your own words the message of each speech in terms of the future.
- Analyze each speech to consider whether it was one of victory or one of realized risk.
- Determine whether you think the killing of Bin Laden has lowered or raised the fear of terrorism in most U.S. citizens.
- Give two (2) examples illustrating how killing Bin Laden has affected al Qaeda.

On 1 May 2011, the environment in the United States changed significantly following the official announcement by President Obama that an elite team of American soldiers had successfully killed Osama bin Laden. He was by then one of the most renown al-Qaida leaders and had been under surveillance from the American forces ever since the September 11th attacks in 2001. Consequently, his death has elicited a significant reaction from Americans, particularly those that had witnessed the extent to which the attack in New York devastated American lives (Cox & Wood, 2017). However, the clearest way to understand the implication of the milestone would be to try and understand the perception of security leaders in the country, as they gave their speeches following the success by the American Navy Seal team.
