View – Treat a Person Not the Ailment
This video is about treating the patient (the person) not just the sickness that they have. In health care and human services often one wants to be able to diagnosis the problem and work on that alone. One needs to be able to find the underlying cause of what is wrong but in the long run, also needs to treat the wound not just bandage it. It is important to ensure that the patient is treated with respect, dignity, and compassion. They need to understand that we are treating them as a whole not just the “illness” at the moment. People want to know that they matter and are going to be cared for.
