Perspectives on Addiction
There are three major perspectives that are used to organize the different models of addiction. They include moral, disease, and maladaptive behavior (Grossman, Chaloupka, & Sirtalan, 2014). The moral model of addiction is the refusal by an individual to abide by various codes of ethics of morals that are expected of them. These individuals make decisions that are considered to be injurious to their welfare and those of others. The disease model is where the addiction leads to ailments among the victims or addicts. This is mainly due to the physiological and psychological mechanisms that are altered by the addiction.
