PHI 1600 Module 3 & Module 4
Critical thinking is vital to the study of Ethics. Critical thinking is, “the active and systematic
process of communication, problem-solving, evaluation, analysis, synthesis, and reflection,
both individually and in community, to foster understanding, support sound decision making,
and guide actions” (Manias & Monroe, 2020). We begin our study of critical thinking in this
module, by considering how logic impacts critical thinking and how the knowledge and
avoidance of fallacies impact the ethical thought process. Later, we will apply critical
thinking to specific cases.
