Summary
The article looks at the various ethical theories that have been developed by philosophers in the past and the role they have to play in regards to whistleblowing in the modern workplace. Whistleblowing is a relatively modern term compared to these philosophical theories. Whistleblowing refers to the process by which employees within an organization report an issue that is happening within the institution that is considered to be illegal, unethical or that offers unfair gains to other members within the institution.
