Locke on Revolution
The existence of legal provisions within any society significantly impacts the existence of the said society. John Locke does an impeccable job in explaining the existence of societies in The Second Treatise, where he explains the extent to which the government and the people should interact with each other. Essentially, the modern society has seen different communities experience revolutions, in which the people have usurped the government, or attempted to change the governance, in some cases succeeding, and in other instances failing. The Syrian civil war is an example of a current situation, in which a faction of the citizens rises against the government to demand change in the governance structure. Locke was categorical in stating that a rebellion is justified when their liberties are infringed, and when the government invades their property contrary to their agreement (Second Treatise, Chapter 19, §228). The argument herein is justified enough because any government that seeks to go against the law and oppresses its does not deserve their trust and support.
