As the supervisor of the internal affairs division within your police department, the chief has charged you with the responsibility of reviewing the department’s procedures regarding the investigation, determination, and recommended strategies that are related to officer misconduct.

The law enforcement agencies and security agencies especially the police have faced many issues in the past few decades that relate to misconduct. These issues have tarnished the image of the police departments across the country with many members of the public suggesting that an overall overhaul of the various police departments is required if such cases of misconduct are to be reduced or phased out. Police misconduct tends to diminish their authority in fighting crime and ensuring that the safety of all members of the society is guaranteed. Police executives need to face some of the major challenges that are faced by police departments instead of distancing themselves from police misconduct as this only acts as a catalysts for encouraging other cases of misconduct in the future. The aim of this paper is to address some of the major issues facing police executives, suggestions to overcoming these challenges, and analyzing the role that is supposed to be played by organizational culture towards dealing with these issues.
