Don Tomlin on Housing Policy
Central Question
Having worked in the housing authority for more than two decades, Don Tomlin has developed extensive understanding of some of the most prominent challenges that influence the delivery of affordable and sufficient housing to society. In his article, the evolution and future of Section 8 program in 2004, Tomlin questions the effectiveness of some of the policies initiated as addendums to the original Section 8 policy. He argues that the additional programs have resulted in inefficiency, which has in turn subverted efforts by the government to provide ideal housing to citizens through the program. In most cases, the new initiatives often seek to serve political ambitions at the expense of public access to affordable housing.
