The sovereignty of the state as identified by Hendrik Spruyt relied on the development of nations as was seen in Europe. Spruyt manages to provide a theory which explains the reasons that further led to the sovereignty of one state as well as its competitors. As identified in the chapter, the approach focused on the nation which would be regarded as an organizational form. The emergence of the state system would exist following the spread of the state. The state would have various competitors who would also be regarded as rivals and would also be in organizational forms (Dickovick & Eastwood, 2016).
