Attached here are all of the sections listed on the syllabus: An introduction to Nietzsche and The Genealogy of Morals sections 1-6, 9, 14, 15-17, as well as the short parable excerpted from the Gay Science.
Remember to think about Rousseau’s claims and Burke’s problem with his attitude as you read.

The madman is a crazy individual that only understand that God and has been killed and this will be detrimental to the lives of human beings. The madman is used because he would raise attention, especially in the marketplace. The madman was perceived as the only the only human being who would morn after God had been killed. Thus, from his shouting in the marketplace, individuals will pay attention to what he trying to pass in the marketplace.
The lantern is a symbol used to represent Gods’ knowledge. In the book entitled “The Madman” by Friedrich Nietzsche, the madman can be pictured carrying a lit lantern while entering the marketplace.
