Maslow chart of hierarchy of need is a five-tier model depicting human needs that are highlighted as hierarchal levels within a pyramid. This is a model of human motivation which infers that for motivation to take place at the next level, each phase ought to be satisfied within an individual. From the bottom, the needs comprise of physiological needs such as water, warmth and food, safety needs including security, and belongingness and low needs such as friendship and intimate relationships. Additional needs include esteem needs such as feelings of accomplishments and prestige and self-actualization needs such as attaining one’s perceived potential. Before an individual can attend to the needs higher in the hierarchy, the needs at the lower bottom must be satisfied first. For example, John, a security guard at Pluscom Corporation, needs food water, rest and security for his survival. These are basic needs that supplement his day to day activities.
