Prevention of Falls in old age care facilities
The purpose of the Special Project assignment is to assist the student in developing an
appreciation for what can be done through volunteerism (i.e., service-learning) for older adults in
the community.
My topic:
Prevention of Falls in old age care facilities
Residents are prone to falls risk. I already work at one of the nursing homes. Teaching the
group of residents will help me to complete this project.
I have witnessed many fall incidents during my shift. I am keeping the bed in the lowest
position, keeping the call lights within reach, and giving residents non-slippery socks to
educate them. This project will significantly benefit residents, and the fall risk census will be
low.
Course Learning Outcomes: Through this assignment, the student will meet the following
course learning outcome(s):
CLO 4: Identify areas where the behaviors of older adults affect their health and functioning.

The outcome of the Special Project should be a short informal paper (2-5 double-spaced pages)
that describes: (a) the need you identified, (b) what you did to address it, and (c) what you
believe the outcome was for you and for the person(s) assisted.
