Prevention Research Paper (50 points): This paper must focus on a topic identified during the course of the older adult interview. This paper should be shared with the older adult that was interviewed. Components must include the following: • Table of Contents including the following components: • Problem Statement: The purpose of this section is to clarify the issues surrounding the problem that is of interest to your interviewee. A minimum of 2 references from peer-reviewed professional journals. This section requires a minimum of 1 page. • Review of the Literature: The purpose is to report current research regarding your stated problem. It should include an analysis of the factors that contribute to the problem. Avoid the use of too many direct quotes. A minimum of 8 references from peer reviewed professional journals is required. This section requires a minimum of 2 pages. • Prevention and Resource Strategies: Strategies offered must be research supported with appropriate citations in the text of your paper. This is where your Web Resources can be used. Resources necessary to address the problem can be local, state or national. There should be a clear delineation between primary (education), secondary (interventions), and tertiary (treatment) prevention strategies. These strategies have been addressed in other community health classes. A minimum of three (3) web resources is required for this section. This section requires a minimum of 1 page. • Summary: This section should “put in a nutshell” what has been stated in the research literature, especially as it relates to your prevention and resource strategies. Problem Statement

Cancer is among the most common cause of deaths in the United States. More than 12.7 million people are diagnosed with cancer recording 7.6 million deaths globally. The figures are projecting higher and therefore need for governmental and institutional intervention. According to the 2008 statistics, 56 percent of new cases and 65% deaths occur in developing countries. However, the United Stets also records a trending increase in cases of cancer prevalence. Therefore, the world records 1.6 cases of mortality caused by cancer disease (Ferlay, et al, 2013).
