When people think of a correctional facility, many assume that these facilities only house only regular criminals that are perfectly well. Little do people realize that these facilities also house mentally ill inmates, offenders with special needs as well as prisoners who abuse substances. Since these different offenders require particular attention, they affect the systems of jail and prison at both state and federal levels. In the United States, state and federal government partner to ensure the different inmates in various jails and prisons receive special attention.
