How did the divergence of the economies of the Northern and Southern states develop different societal mindsets? How did the expanding Western frontier affect the relationship between the existing states of the Union? How did the issue of slavery affect the United States, Canada, and Mexico?

The United States split into two groups, the Northern states and the Southern states around the 1800s although they were under the same president and covered by the same constitution. There was a difference in the economy as the South’s concentrated more on agriculture especially cotton while the North’s mainly focused on manufacturing (Scott, 2001).
