The difference between a pack donkey and man lies in the purposefulness of their actions. While the pack donkey consistently seeks to take the path of least resistance, man will always take particular actions based on the ultimate objective (Cobusier and Etchells 5). This analogy helps understand the designs of different cities in history and their consequent challenges associated with ideal planning. In particular, poorly organized cities often began with public settlement around various utilities such as water from rivers and roads within the environment. On the other hand, well-planned cities, such as those in which the Roman empire was actively involved included an extensive review of the landscape and planning, which resulted in rectangular designs for the cities therein.
