The Open Boat is a short story by Stephen Crane, an American author. The short story was first published in 1897 and follows a story where Crane survived a disaster in the ocean on the coast of Florida. At the time, he had been on a voyage to Cuba where he was working as a correspondent for a local newspaper. Crane and other people on the ship were stranded at sea for more than 30 hours after the ship they were using hit an obstacle.
