More Sinned Against then Sinning: The Fabrications of “Pre-Code Cinema” by Richard Maltby is an essay that ideally reviews the history of Hollywood products and how it has been tweaked to fit a narrative that places the industry in a position of a melodramatic hero. The article presents various forms of evidence and criticism of the idea that what most people know about Hays Code is mostly untrue. To this the paper provides that “Hollywood’s “Self-regulation” was not primarily about controlling the content of movies…” The author goes ahead to provide that the history of Hollywood has been altered for a number reasons.
