The second great awakening is described as a time of great evangelical revival in America. Due to its extensive impact on large population, this spiritual resurgence transformed religion in America. By the beginning of the revolution, some of the largest religions in America included Congregationalists, Anglicans, and Quakers. However, by the beginning of the 19th Century, Baptists and Evangelical Methodism were identified as the fastest growing religions in America. The Second Great Awakening cannot be mentioned without Charles Grandison Finney. Finney left his law career to become an evangelist and was ordained by the Presbyterian Church. In his evangelical missions, Finney converted hundreds of thousands through his powerful sermons that often drew large numbers.
