Warith Deen Mohammed

            Warith Deen Mohammed played a crucial role in transforming Islam in the United States. He took over the leadership of the Nation of Islam (NOI) after his father’s death on February 25, 1975. However, he decided to transform the organization and the entire perception of Islamic religion instead of following in his father’s footsteps. Consequently, he eliminated the dress code of NOI, explained the Five Pillars of Islam comprehensively, and disbanded the NOI’s military branch (Muhammad, 1991).
