Stoicism, as a school of philosophy, can be traced back to 300 B.C. when Zeno of Citium founded it. The philosophy focused on teachings which had been developed by Socrates and Heraclitus. The school of philosophy focused on the development of certain virtues which include fortitude and self-control which would be used by one when faced with destructive emotions. The philosophy is centered on the person’s way of life since the individual would have to incorporate logic as well as self-discipline in his or her life.
