Write a Problem Statement and Goal and Select a Research Methodology
Instructions
Select a topic that may be worthy of a dissertation research project. The topic you select must align with your specialization. You may pick a topic you have explored already in this course, or another topic that you have identified through research. Conduct research to compile at least seven recent scholarly sources on your topic. If in doubt, please share your idea with the professor and request feedback. Then, write a pre-proposal document, in which you cover the following research elements:
A succinct problem statement that explains:
A. significant and re-searchable problem, supported by three (3) recent research references or credible statistics; and
B. the implications of the problem to practitioners in the field;
A purpose statement that reflects the goal of the research project and intended methodological approach;
A brief description of the preferred research method. Will you be doing a quantitative, qualitative, or constructive study? You should refer to relevant research method materials covered in this course to build a rationale for your decision and explain why the chosen approach is appropriate given the stated problem and purpose.
Remember that your selection of an appropriate research method will determine which subsequent research methods course you enroll in. Now is the time when you select the type of research you will do for your dissertation.
You may discover a new problem statement or refine a problem statement that you wrote previously. Be sure to incorporate any feedback from prior professors and improve upon any prior work.
Length: 3-5 pages, not including title page and references
Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.
