The main issue I will be addressing on a unit is post surgery infection rates using the clinical Microsystems model. Firstly I would organize a team to make sure that people in the department of all positions could join in to bring different perspectives into the equation. This would also help us assign certain roles or tasks to each person in the group to help organize the workload. Next, I would do the 5 P’s assessment, which includes an assessment of the purpose of the group, the patients, the professionals involved, the processes, and then patterns involved. In this step it’s pretty self explanatory, I would be making sure we could break down each component and focus on what each piece has a part in with our research.
I currently work on the orthopedic floor at Swedish American. My supervisor and nurse manager maintain an environment that upholds up keeping on quality improvement. On the floor, everyone everyday is made aware of certain things that need to be made aware, updated on, and things we are doing right. An important quality improvement aspect on my floor (I believe all units are doing this) is to conduct pain management audits. These are done by nurse to nurse auditing one another
