The author effectively explains the meaning of both implicit and explicit motives with the prior standing out to be subconscious while the latter is goal oriented. I agree that implicit motives are impossible to control as they develop during the youngest years of an individual even before they are aware of societal influences like language. The explicit motives are however choices that an individual makes throughout a lifetime, and they can change depending on the kind of image one needs to portray. I like the connection that the writer creates between implicit and explicit motives as a way of achieving personal best version. Implicit intention relies on the satisfaction of a certain need that an individual was anticipating which automatically affects how one feels about the whole issue.
