Based on your reading of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, class lectures, and discussions, write a 5 to 7 page essay on the topic below. Analyze the origins of the French Revolution. What were the long-term and the short-term causes of this revolution? How did various groups, such as the nobility, bourgeoisie, workers, and peasants, gain or lose from the events of 1789-1799? How does Dickens help us to understand the Revolution? Reading the novel alerts one to the diverse values by which people lived and makes one conscious of things about us. The novel also deals with the individual in conflict with his/her environment, with the positive and negative values of revenge, with the conflict between duty and desire, between honor and dishonor. Introduction

Conspicuously, the French Revolution that lasted ten years six months and four days were carried forward by a French military leader Napoleon, in a bid to transform the leadership system in France form monarchies and replacing them with liberal democracies and republics that were authoritarian and militaristic (Lynn, 2004). Moreover, the French Revolution that lasted from 5th May 1789 to 9th November 1799 had a significant effect to France nationalities and human history in general since it created a path for individual freedoms and its future advancements, more so bringing end to feudalism a common practice mixed of military and legal customs that determined how societies were formed and structured based on the relationships individuals derived from holding land in exchange of labor.
