Question
Marketing
KIA Respond with 150 words
According to Armstrong & Kotler (2021), the first stage of the product life cycle is product development. In this stage, the company creates the product idea, invests the capital, and sales for the product are at zero. The second stage of the product life cycle is a product introduction. In this beginning stage, the product is introduced into the market, with low sales, and more invested by the firm. The third stage of the product life cycle is growth. Consumers are rapidly buying the product, and profits and demand are increasing. The fourth stage is maturity, which is a decline in sales because the product has reached acceptance in the consumer market. Increased market outlays result in decreased profits. The last stage in the product life cycle is decline. Product sales and profits fall and drop completely.
The message holds that marketers actually determine or ” defy” the rules of the product life cycle, directly and indirectly (Armstrong & Kotler, 2021). Companies basically always have a new product to be introduced, at the same time the previous product life cycle is declining. According to Medium (2018), Netflix continues to reinvent its product streaming services, with product life cycles, promoting new or existing movies or Tv shows on its platform.

There are five stages to the product life cycle are product development, Introduction, Growth, maturity, and Decline. Product development is essentially the start of a project where the company comes up with a new product or service and develops a physical version of the product, during this time the company’s investment costs increase dramatically and no sales take place during this time. The second step introduction is when the product first hits the market and will show slow sales growth due to it slowly being rolled out, companies shouldn’t expect to make any profit during this stage because they’re still recouping the money they used during the product development. During the growth stage in the product life cycle, there is a quick rise in the market acceptance and popularity in which leads to increased profits for the company. Next in the PLC stage is the maturity stage where the product reaches near its peak where profits level out and sales growth slows down, the reduction in sales growth comes from the acceptance in the market and competition catches up to the product. In the final stage of decline, the product sales fall off and are known as the beginning of the end for the product. If used correctly marketers are able to use this as a good framework for how a new market will reach the market and will be able to pick up when the product hits each stage.

Beer: Product Focus/ Continuous. Beer is produced in high volume, low variety is there, and continuous process works around the clock. Wedding invitations: Process Focus/ Job Shop. Many print jobs are running on a print press that has different complexity and quantity of production runs.. Automobiles: Repetitive Focus/ Modular. Components of the top products are either purchased or produced into sub-assemblies. There are various stages on the primary assembly. Paper: Product Focus/ Continuous. Typically there are continuous plants that may have capacities of hundreds or thousands of tons each day. The output is packed with giant reels. Big Macs: Repetitive Focus/ Modular. Ingredients such as cheese, meat, sauce, onions, etc., are prepared in other separate modules, and the final steps for making the finished Product are repetitive. Custom Homes: Mass Customization/ Job Shop with components made in Product Focused and Modular facilities. Low volume exists but variety is immense. The modular features may be doors and windows, while product-focused parts are like bricks, plumbing, cables, etc. Motorcycles: Repetitive Focus/ Modular. The components of the top products are either purchased or produced into sub-assemblies. There are various stages in the primary assembly.

According to our textbook ( Heizer et al,. 2017, 2014, 2011, pg. 282), the process that is used to make each of the following products such as beer; wedding invitations; automobiles; paper; Big Macs; custom homes, and motorcycles is that of Process focus. This process enables facilities to be organized around specific activities and or processes. This is done by having facilities designed in a way where the equipment, layout, and supervision are geared and guided towards the specialization that needs to be created and has to take place. Being processed focused enables a place or that of a factory where processes take place to have them happen on time, concentrated on the task at hand, and to be able to carry out each job with efficiency and increased effectiveness so that the final piece/outcome is achieved with better results. When products are done through process focus, everything is done according to a protocol and a step-by-step procedure, while errors or defects can occur from time to time, the supervisors and employees take extra care in making sure that they do not happen because these individuals stay on top of the action and they use computerized machinery and equipment that allows them to detect when something goes wrong or is about to.
As stated by Agostini ( 2016), marketing activities in a business tend to be carried out within a process and even a focused one. The marketing idea/ideas have to be there for starters, then finding the right resources to bring it to life have to be within the means of the organization so that product development can begin and be carried through until production is satisfied and then lastly comes market development, which in turn requires the distributors getting the final product to market.
