Choose a professional scientific article that is referenced by your book These articles are intended for a professional scientific audience rather than the general public, and are full of technical terms or “jargon”. However, these articles are notable because they are the original reports of scientific discoveries and ideas. And, if one takes the time to look up the terms, one can understand what is being said. You will examine the abstracts of these articles (one-paragraph summaries of the entire article), and take the time to “translate” them into plain English. Detailed instructions are included with these assignments on Canvas.
Your presentation (Weeks 13 and 14) should be a set of slides that you can present to the class via Zoom, and should have three main components:
1. a summary of your book
2. a discussion of how your translated article abstracts relate/contribute to your book’s message
3. your thoughts on the book (such as: Is it worth reading? What made you choose it?)
4. 8-14 Slides
These components do not have to be in this order, and you can blend them together if you like.
