Ephesians 6:5-9 says ” Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.” What I took from this particular Scripture is that a leader should never motivate his or her employees primarily by fear. A leader should create the conditions that foster intrinsic motivation, rather than relying on detailed rules and telling people what to do. Treat each employee with respect and see them as God sees them. This scripture also describes how leaders should trust their employees or the people working for them and have high expectations for them. To sum it up lead from values and not just rules alone.

Another scripture that describes how a Christian or biblically-based world viewer thinks of management is Romans 8:28. This scripture says” And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. This means that a Christian leader must have true and faithful relations with the Lord. If you work and live through God, you are carrying out his purpose for you.

Another good Scripture that depicts the Christian worldview on management and organizational behavior is Peter 5:1-3. This scripture reads ” To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed. Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them- not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” This means to oversee your workers and be a role model to them, so they will behave and work as your example shown.

When evaluating myself at the end of Chapter 3 of the text, there were not many surprises to the results and answers. To summarize the results, my personality showed that I often think of things in terms of being an optimist while leaning more on the introverted side. My nature tends to be driven towards doing things for others while learning as much as possible about a subject to prepare for it. I have a great deal of trust in the people I work with and people I am around often, which dictates many of my decisions. Psalm 37:5 (English Standard Version) states, “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.” I tended to agree with many of the statements and questions more than I disagreed with them.

Although not a surprise, much of my answers in the survey led to me being more so a non-authoritarian, which I tend to agree with. I am very laid back and like to give people the freedom to be themselves on my teams. Although my style may not be the aggressive type associated with the “authoritarian” style, my personality can still demand my players’ respect and the ability to get their attention when necessary. Ivancevich et al. (2018) expressed that we must have an awareness of our surroundings and reach people that we have control over in different ways that will bring the best out in them. The influence of these results shows me that I am doing the right things and am consistent in what I believe in and how I think decisions should be made.

This survey confirms my thoughts that I am on the right track where I want to be in my coaching career. I do not have any concerns with the results, although I would have if the results were inconsistent. The area I know that must continue to improve is my inconsistency in being assertive and voicing my opinion more when things are out of sorts. Although I can get my points across to my team, some scenarios would likely call for me to be more vocal.

Ultimately, this exercise showed the importance of seeing the different sides of issues that could arise and other ways to consider options that appear. Although I struggle to do it, it is essential to try different things and think in different ways to maximize yourself and your organization’s abilities. This survey was necessary because it proved that I am on the right track and am being consistent in my approaches to my occupation. Consistency and treating people the right way are the utmost essential factors that drive me daily.
