The Robbers cave experiment was a social observation experiment which was conducted to reveal to the investigators, what really was the primary source of tension that culminated within groups that stayed together. Muzafer Sherif a social psychologist led a team in the 1950’s whose sole purpose was the identification of the causes of tension between groups; this was achieved through an investigation.
